Fantastic Geometry

The fashion for polyhedra-based geometrical art, that flourished briefly in mid-sixteenth century, involved goldsmiths, carpenters, engravers, stone-masons and printers, who playfully engaged with perspective studies of 3D mathematical figures. The various books that they produced were published at a time of enormous political and cultural change and contain astonishing graphics that have now, for the first time, been gathered together in a single volume. Today, these fundamental forms still retain the capacity to engage our attention and act as a perennial source of artistic inspiration.
