Ancient history, literature, and stern German scholarship meet in this 1898 map Die Ausgrabung von Troja created by Wilhelm Dörpfeld and Wilhelm Wilberg. This was produced in a smallish folded edition, to act as a sort of scholarly tourist guide in the years before the First World War. The walls marked in red are Troy VI, widely regarded as the city described in The Iliad.
