Adapted from Color problems: A practical manual for the lay student of color (1902) by American artist Emily Noyes Vanderpoel (1842 - 1939).
Color Problems (republished in 2018) was 400 pages and included 116 illustrations. Vanderpoel created 10 x 10 grids and recorded the colours in a wide variety of objects. A practical guide to colour theory, Vanderpoel pre-empted minimalist design, decades before it was popular and remains largely uncredited for her contributions.
