This is the remarkable story of one wool-obsessed woman's life changing quest to save a rare little horned sheep. A passion for knitting led Jane Cooper to discover the world of rare breed sheep and their wool. Through this, she uncovered the Orkney Borerary, a unique group within the UK’s rarest breed of sheep, the Boreray, and one of the few surviving examples of primitive sheep in northern Europe.
As her knowledge of this beautiful heritage breed grew, she took the bold step of uprooting from suburban Newcastle and relocating to Orkney, where she embarked on a new life as a farmer and shepherd. To her astonishment, she found that she was the world's sole custodian of this lost flock, and so she began investigating the Borerary's mysterious and ancient history, tracking down its origins and its significance to Scotland’s natural heritage.
